Who are we?
The Gulf Youth Alliance (GYA) is a youth group founded by Kuwaiti students that are concerned with the wellbeing of upcoming generations, including their own. This is accomplished by attempting to enhance the quality of life in underprivileged communities around the globe, through solutions driven by the entrepreneurial spirit and ingenuity of the Arab youth.
What are we doing?
The Gulf Youth Alliance are taking on the Polio Point initiative in Kuwait by collaborating all sectors of society from ministries, to private and public schools and universities, corporations and lastly, our special needs community. The idea behind Polio Points is an award and reward system, where by doing any good deed that contributes to society such as recycling and volunteering as examples, people will be awarded with polio points. By the end of the project term, these points are then translated into dollars which go to funding vaccinations for eradicating polio disease. The amount of money that will be donated after accumulating the polio points, will be matched by The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
This specific crowdfunding is dedicated to fund the participation of special need students in the Polio Point program of the project in order to engage them in this historic eradication of Polio.
Where did this project come from, and how was it born?
Our first global initiative took place on the 26th of January, 2015 in Berlin, where representatives of the GYA were invited to attend Gavi’s pledging conference hosted by the Federal Government of Germany. The purpose in attending was to pledge an initial amount on the behalf of Kuwait’s youth to help immunize and vaccinate children around the world. This opened doors for us to participate in global initiatives around the globe and that’s how we came across the polio point program which aims at providing us with a polio free world.
Why are we doing what we're doing?
The reasoning behind our participation for polio points is due to the fact that it engages, excites and empowers every learner from preschool to high school and beyond. Furthermore, it promotes and grows local and global citizenship, fostering an awareness of the needs of others and how to make a difference. Lastly, It directly contributes to the global eradication of polio, and saves children’s lives.
What is our plan and what is our schedule?
For the month of Ramadan, we are launching our crowdfunding campaign in order to raise funds for the participation of special need students for our upcoming polio point project. This coming semester on the 24th of October, we are going to officially launch the polio point program which will go on for two months. This consists of all the participating private and public schools and universities, corporations, organizations and more. It will last until the 22nd of December, where all the polio points will be accumulated, translated and donated.
Why should people support us?
In order for us to progress, we as a community need to come together. Therefore, everyone’s participation in being a global citizen is crucial not only for eradicating polio, but for creating a prodigious world.
What is the breakdown in detail about the budget?
The budget amount is strictly going into funding Polio Points earned by special need students, printing materials and art supplies.
The process of earning polio points and eradicating polio is very simple.
Do something amazing in school (a good deed which demonstrates your active citizenship).
Earn a Polio Point for every one of your good deeds (from your school or your teacher specifically)
Your Polio Point will then be matched (by a donation, and The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation).
This donation goes towards the global eradication of polio.
A child is vaccinated against polio (and has the chance to do something amazing too).
As for our special needs students, they will participate by creating artwork to award those who contribute to our crowdfunding campaign.
Risk & Challenge
One of the possible challenges we may face is not being able to accommodate all schools/universities who would like to participate in Polio Points. We plan to over come this challenge by being granted with more donors and sponsorship's to include all interested institutions.
Who can participate?
Everyone can participate in Polio Points.
